I is NOT dead.....Woot.....
Ok. I just got back from camping, yes CAMPING. In a tent. With a sleeping bag. Overnight. Willingly.
You can stop with the "Oh, holy fuck. Who ARE you?" now.
Bonus girly points: I'd just painted my nails, too.
Our Geology class had a field work element and they wanted guinea pigs. Roomie and I decided to sign up. The field work portion was two classes, a weekend out, and a 2 page paper.
We've gone through the classes and this weekend was the trip.
Grand Canyon is still pretty. Sunset Crater is still a volcano. Nothing's really changed.
The only thing that was new was SP crater.....That's its name. The USGS censored it. All of the profs and TAs called it its actual name 'ShitPot crater'. And let me tell you, that thing is a sumbitch to climb. It's a long way, the soil is cinders and ridiculously loose, and it's as damn close to vertical as it can be while still being vaguely climbable.
Three of us students, three TAs, and my Prof all had an "Oh, fuck it." moment about halfway......The irritating thing was, we weren't even technically ON SP. We were on the adjacent, older volcanoes. You have to climb those before you even get to SP. The seven of us just hung out at the saddle between the two and had a mini geography lesson, which was followed by an amazingly geeky TA debate over the origin of a nearby Maar....
Now, before ya'll start calling me a pussy, keep in mind that it's only about 35 degrees out, there's 40 mile an hour winds, it's dry as all hell, and I have asthma. Yeah, biotch. I'm lucky I made it THAT far.
Anyway, we DID make it back to campus. And just in frickin' time too. It started snowing about 20 minutes after I got into my dorm. Stupid frickin' weather.
So, I'm staying in tonight. Snacking. Working on random crap, or trying to. And HOPEFULLY actually sleeping tonight. Grand Canyon ground, sub-freezing temperatures, and small tents do NOT make for restful sleep.
I'm achy, I'm bitchy, I've been shaky since noon, I'm tired, and I have a full day of class tomorrow. Thank Ra that Tuesday's a holiday.
